5 Ways to Be More Productive at Work

If you’re looking for ways to ease your burden with your never ending to-do lists but achieve results and feel accomplished at the end of each work day, we’ve got news for you. Don’t be overwhelmed by the pile of documents on your desk (easily stow those away in a lockable cabinet) and get to work with these 5 tips on how to be more productive at office.

First off, you need to understand that an unproductive day is a day wasted and you will only have another day to cover up the work you had missed – which will only burden you more. Also move away from work myths of yesteryear of looking busy and stressed. Attending day long meetings and answering a hundred emails doesn’t mean you have accomplished something. At the end of your work day you need to assess what results came from your time at office. What did you work towards and what was accomplished. Results oriented corporate philosophies are all the rage, where its how many results did you accomplish over how long you put in that day.  Here’s how you do it.

1. Prioritising your Work Tasks: By setting a maximum of 3 priorities you have set for yourself a tangible and possible goal. Rather than a never ending to do list you have given yourself 3 items to accomplish. You may have a weekly to do list with the entire list of things required from you, but for that particular day, you need to set aside time for those select tasks and work towards accomplishing them.

2. Always take on the Most Important Tasks: No matter how hard it is, always choose the important item on the list so that it’s over and done with.

3. Email Control: Limit your time spent checking and replying to email. Unless you are in customer support services, there is no need for you to respond right away. By setting aside a periodic time table to check your email and respond to a lot in one go you are focusing on the task at hand.

4.  Limiting Your Times Spent in Meetings: Meetings can most of the time be a waste of time. Cut down all meetings to a maximum of 20 minutes in order for topics to be conveyed faster rather than having to idle in a boardroom or meeting room.

5. Set Agendas for Meetings and Stick to them: One way of making sure you limit your time spent in meetings is having a strict agenda for proper structure, thus saving time idling during the meeting as all meeting stakeholders will enter the room with all information on point.
